Genus: Tospovirus Main host plants and diseases: Chrysanthemums and tomatoes are the only reported natural hosts for CSNV. Symptoms are described as mild or severe necrotic streaks on the stem, wilting of leaves and stems, and chlorotic or necrotic spots and rings on some leaves. Necrosis on peduncles and flora receptacles has been described too. Transmission: CSNV is transmitted and spread in nature by thrips (Thysanoptera) in a persistent manner. Frankliniella occidentalis and Frankliniella schultzei are main vectors of CSNV. Sensitivity: Sensitivity of the ELISA is high. The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted at 1:90 - 1:810. Reactivity: Reaction of the ELISA is strong. Optical Density at 405 nm is in a range of 0.600 - 1.800 depending on the virus titer in the samples tested. Specificity: This test system has no cross reaction with healthy plant tissues tested. Background is very low on the negative control wells. |
